Belief Revision

Belief revision is a basic skill and capability for AI systems. It was initially studied in economics and philosophy. In the 1980s there was an explosion in interest in belief revision and numerous models were developed. During this time several open problems were identified and defined. It took many years for the research community to develop solutions to these open problems.

Today there is a strong focus on developing AI systems that can explain their classifications, decisions and recommendations. This new field is eXplainable AI (XAI). Explanations are for people and they can be understood as a change of belief.
